Los Angeles-based Gourmet Trading Co. is offering South Pacific Trading organic blueberries grown biodynamically in Chile.gourmet_sp_biodynamic

“Gourmet Trading Co. is enthusiastic to offer its retail customers something new for their high-end environmentally conscience blueberry consumers,” said Chloe Varennes, marketing manager.

The grower is certified biodynamic by Demeter, Varennes said. As distinct from other organic production, biodynamic crops require creating and managing a closed system minimally dependent on imported materials, according to Demeter standards. Inputs and materials are produced locally.

The biodynamic blueberries have better quality and shelf life than conventional blueberries, Varennes said. The company is offering both Gourmet Trading Co. organic blueberries and South Pacific Trading biodynamic blueberries.

The Sonoma, Calif.-based Chilean Fresh Fruit Association has reported that it expects promotable volumes of Chilean blueberries of all types to be in the U.S. marketplace through March.
