According to Julio Volante, delegate in Huelva of the Official College of Agricultural Technical Engineers of Western Andalusia (Coitand), the blueberry acreage in the province of Huelva has stabilized, with a tendency towards early and mid-season varieties.

Blueberry cultivation gained strength in the province of Huelva at the beginning of this century, when strawberry producers started to diversify their productions with other berries, such as blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. In the last decade, the acreage has been growing slowly, reaching just under 4,500 hectares in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Volante said that the growers currently prefer to cultivate varieties that advance the production to the months of February / March, instead of waiting for April / May. It is also true that the province of Huelva is characterized by its early production, given its weather conditions.
