Certification will help US retailers to communicate health and nutrition messages to their customers

Chilean blueberries have been certified by the Heart-Check Food Certification Programme of the American Heart Association, a scientific journal in the US that investigates cardiovascular matters.

The process helps clarify the nutritional and labelling information of the fruit, giving consumers peace of mind, according.

“We are delighted to receive the Heart-Check certification from the American Heart Association,” said Andres Armstrong, the committee’s executive director.

“We look forward to communicating this in our promotions for consumers and retailers of Blueberries de Chile, helping people to make healthier decisions when thinking about their next purchase or when preparing meals at home.”

The certification comes at a key period for the promotion of Chilean blueberries: the months of January and February are the months of peak supply.

Chile is one of the main exporters of blueberries between the months of October and April. The committee announced recently that it is partnering with retailers across the US to boost sales. It is also promoting its blueberries through websites like Fruits from Chile, highlighting the health benefits associated with its consumption, along with recommendations for their use.

“Now more than ever, retailers want to communicate health and nutrition messages to their shoppers,” said Karen Brux of the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association.

“The Heart-Check brand will give consumers another compelling reason to put blueberries in their shopping cart, whether in store or online.”
